The Farmhouse, Modern Farmhouse, and Colonial Styles are taking the market by storm right now. With these styles though, it’s easy to fall victim to novice design mistakes. Finding balance between texture, contrast, and materials for your exterior is key!

One way to create balance is by following the rule of three. At least three different textures and exactly three different colors on the body of your exterior is the sweet spot. Masonry stone or brick and James Hardie fiber cement board products should be used in tandem for the perfect look. Don’t love the look of a ton of stone or brick? Use it on retaining walls and/or your foundation walls. We have showcased this particular look on three different parade homes in the last five years as well as several other homes. The element of stone or brick on an exterior adds dimension, texture, color, and pattern that makes your home more interesting and adds curb appeal.
