To kick off our next series, tips and tricks to a great exterior, we are going to talk about texture. Texture adds dimension and character to a space. Certainly this goes for exteriors as well. Adding several textures through your exterior applications will bring interest to the building as a whole. While going through the design process, consider adding varying textures. Rather than covering the whole building in one material, play with different materials. This can be achieved by using board & batten, lap siding, stone, stucco, or even shake shingles. The following examples show how others achieved great exteriors through diversifying their textures.

Antique Pearl Limestone, Ashlar & Panels

Echo Ridge Country Ledgestone, Horizontal Hardie Board, and Shake Shingle

Old Irvington Brick, Yorkshire Squares and Recs, & Horizontal Hardie Board
